Prepare for the adventure of a lifetime with our North Sikkim Expedition. This rugged, breathtaking 8-day journey takes you into the remote and pristine corners of the Eastern Himalayas. North Sikkim is a land of extremes—from deep, rhododendron-filled valleys to frozen alpine deserts and some of the highest accessible lakes in the world.

You'll travel through winding mountain passes to reach the picturesque outposts of Lachen and Lachung. Witness the surreal beauty of Gurudongmar Lake, situated at a staggering 17,800 feet, and stroll through the vibrant blooms of Yumthang Valley. This expedition is perfect for thrill-seekers, avid photographers, and anyone looking to experience the raw, untamed majesty of the high Himalayas.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Gangtok

• Morning/Afternoon: Arrive at Bagdogra/NJP and drive to Gangtok.
• Evening: Check-in, relax, and acclimatize to the altitude. Stroll around MG Marg.

Day 2: Gangtok to Lachen

• Morning: After early breakfast, begin the rugged drive to Lachen (approx. 9,000 ft) in North Sikkim.
• Afternoon: En route, stop at the mesmerizing Seven Sisters Waterfall and Naga Waterfall. Enjoy lunch at a wayside inn.
• Evening: Arrive in the remote village of Lachen. Check into a cozy homestay or hotel. Rest early to prepare for tomorrow's high-altitude start.

Day 3: Gurudongmar Lake & Transfer to Lachung

• Morning: Start at 4:00 AM. Drive through the high-altitude desert to Gurudongmar Lake (17,800 ft), one of the highest lakes in the world. The frozen landscape and azure waters are unforgettable.
• Afternoon: Return to Lachen for lunch. Check out and drive to the sister village of Lachung (8,600 ft).
• Evening: Arrive in Lachung. Enjoy a warm dinner and comfortable overnight stay.

Day 4: Yumthang Valley & Zero Point

• Morning: Drive to Yumthang Valley (11,800 ft), known as the Valley of Flowers. During spring, it's blanketed in vibrant rhododendrons.
• Afternoon: Optional visit to Zero Point (Yumesamdong) at 15,300 ft to experience snow year-round (extra cost/permit may apply). Return to Lachung for lunch.
• Evening: Spend a relaxed evening in Lachung.

Day 5: Return to Gangtok

• Morning: After breakfast, begin the scenic drive back to Gangtok. Stop at Bhim Nala Waterfall.
• Afternoon: Stop for lunch on the way. The descent offers changing landscapes from alpine tundra back to subtropical forests.
• Evening: Arrive in Gangtok. Check-in to your hotel and enjoy a well-deserved rest.

Day 6: Tsomgo Lake & Baba Mandir

• Morning: Full-day excursion to Tsomgo Lake (12,400 ft) and the sacred Baba Mandir.
• Afternoon: Return to Gangtok.
• Evening: Free time for shopping and enjoying Gangtok's vibrant nightlife.

Day 7: Gangtok Sightseeing

• Morning: Visit Banjhakri Falls, Do Drul Chorten, and the Enchey Monastery.
• Afternoon: Take the Gangtok Ropeway for bird's-eye views of the city.
• Evening: Final dinner in Sikkim.

Day 8: Departure

• Morning: Breakfast at hotel.
• Afternoon: Transfer back to Bagdogra Airport/NJP Station for your onward journey.

Packing List

• Heavy winter gear is mandatory (thermal wear, down jacket, insulated gloves, woolen socks, and a warm beanie).
• Sturdy, waterproof trekking boots.
• UV protection sunglasses and high SPF sunscreen.
• Basic medical kit including altitude sickness medication (Diamox), camphor, and personal prescriptions.
• Multiple copies of ID proofs and passport-size photographs for permits.

Local Tips

• High Altitude: Gurudongmar Lake is extremely high altitude. Do not run or overexert yourself. If you feel dizzy or breathless, inform your guide immediately and descend.
• Plastic Ban: North Sikkim has a strict ban on single-use plastics, including packaged water bottles. Carry reusable thermoses.
• Basic Amenities: Lachen and Lachung are remote villages; expect basic amenities, simple food, and limited mobile network connectivity.

Best Time to Visit

• April to May: Best for witnessing the blooming rhododendrons in Yumthang Valley.
• October to November: Clear skies, cold weather, and pristine views. (Winter months often see road blockages due to heavy snow).
